Sunday 10th September Inter Club Finals.

Castlecomer tasted both the joy of victory and the pain of loosing on Sunday last . The club were in both the Duggan Cup and South Leinster Finals played in Edenderry and Carlow respectively. With three players on both panels managers Martin Brennan and Paul Rice had to spread playing resources. The Duggan Cup team played Moate in very challenging weather conditions in Edenderry. After a very sporting contest Castlecomer won the beautiful Duggan Cup for the first time in the club’s history on a scoreline of three matches to two.. The South Leinster team had defeated the Curragh in the semi final on Saturday. They were unlucky in the final on Sunday against a good Gowran side and lost by three matches to two. Well done to both teams and managers on a great weekend of golf for Castlecomer Golf Club.

Sat. 2nd September Captain’s Prize.

Mr. Liam Mooney’s Captain’s Prize concluded on Saturday last. The course was in splendid conditition for the blue ribbon event of the year. With up to six golfers in the mix approaching their last seven holes, the shot that made the ultimate difference was a spectacular one. J.D Harding was just short of the difficult par 5 12th in two. He proceeded to pitch up the green and into the hole for an eagle 3. This propelled J.D. into pole position and he held his nerve over the remaining 6 holes to win by one shot from Fergal O’ Neill. J. D. returned a nett 141 total to Fergal’s 142. Jason Brennan shot 150 gross over the two rounds to claim the gross prize. Kevin Brennan won the student’s section on 145. A great turnout attended the presentation later on that evening, where popular Captain Liam Mooney presented his beautiful prize to J.D. Harding.

Sunday Aug. 27th. Captain’s Prize Round1

After the recent spell of unsettled weather all turned fair for the first round of Mr Liam Mooney’s Captain’s Prize. The large turnout basked in the warm conditions and for some at least the golf was off a good standard also. Tom Staunton playing off 16 and Ronan Walsh playing of 9 head the field after both shot 67 nett in Round 1. Colin Dunne (6) lies in 3rd place on 69. Jason Brennan (3) returned the best gross score 74. Kevin Brennan leads the student section on 69. Its now all to play for in the final round to be played on Saturday next 2nd Sept. All players who scored 75 or better will be allocated tee times by the competition committee for Saturday afternoon. All other players make book their tee times as normal online.
